On Friday 25th October, we had the honour of welcoming at a round table organised by the Diario de Le\u00f3n, several members of the regional government of Castilla y Le\u00f3n to our facilities.<\/p>\n

The aim of the round table was to discuss about the problems and the challenges of ensuring economic and social development of the industrial polygons <\/strong>located in the Community of Castilla y Le\u00f3n, of which the Le\u00f3n Technology Park <\/strong>forms part. Syva’s headquarters and administrative offices <\/strong>are located here, as well as the manufacturing plants for vaccines and beta-lactams. <\/strong><\/p>\n

After a guided tour of our facilities, the round table was introduced by Juan Carlos Su\u00e1rez-Qui\u00f1ones,<\/strong> regional counselor for the Environment, Housing and Territorial Planning. Su\u00e1rez-Qui\u00f1ones declared: \u2018The need for industrial soil is evident: without industrial soil there are no companies, without companies there is no economic development, no employment, no wealth and no future for our territory\u2019<\/em>. He highlighted the work of the regional government of Castilla y Le\u00f3n in the development of high-quality industrial sites<\/strong> at an affordable and competitive price, equipped with the best infrastructures and services; without forgetting to prioritise access to water and energy infrastructures,<\/strong> gas, electricity, communication and telecommunications means<\/strong> and waste management. All this in compliance with the current decarbonisation<\/strong> standards to which society and industrial activity must adhere.<\/p>\n

In Castilla y Le\u00f3n<\/strong>, 92% of the total energy generated is renewable<\/strong>. We are the Spanish autonomous community that generates the highest percentage of renewable energy, and we are among the leaders in terms of generation at European level.<\/p>\n

In order to develop this ambitious project, a collaboration led by the Regional Ministry of Economy and Finance was established, with the involvement of the Territorial Delegation and the public institution SOMACyL.\u00a0Representatives of these institutions were present.<\/p>\n

The Regional Counselor also thanked Syva for the visit to its facilities, highlighting the high quality of its installations,<\/strong> and Syva’s commitment to Le\u00f3n and its industrial network through its activities in the veterinary pharmaceutical industry<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Why choosing Syva’s facilities for this round table?<\/h4>\n

As Joaqu\u00edn S\u00e1nchez Torn\u00e9, <\/strong>moderator of the round table and director of Diario de Le\u00f3n, pointed out, \u2018the pharmaceutical industry is a benchmark here in the Le\u00f3n Technology Park\u2019 <\/em>and Syva is a key player <\/strong>here, being an excellent example of the need for expansion and resources in this type of industry.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Two representatives of the ministry and the public services in charge of implementing this ambitious plan for the development of the industrial network were present at the round table. On the one hand, Carlos Mart\u00edn Tobalina<\/strong>, Deputy Counselor of Economy and Competitiveness of the regional government of Castilla y Le\u00f3n, who stressed the need to be agile in the implementation of this plan <\/strong>if we do not want companies to go elsewhere, and on the other hand,<\/p>\n

Jos\u00e9 Manuel Jim\u00e9nez Bl\u00e1zquez<\/b> Director General for Infrastructures and Environmental Sustainability who insisted on the need for flexibility and proposed a model for urban development plans<\/b> managed by a managing board and based on criteria to support companies against administrative burdens, in order to avoid administrative delays, while at the same time carrying out controls through audits to check compliance with the regulations.<\/p>\n

Vice-counselor of Economy and Competitiveness of the regional government of Castilla y Le\u00f3n, who highlighted the need to be agile in the implementation of this plan if we do not want companies to go elsewhere, and proposed a model of urban development plan managed by a board of administration and based on criteria that support companies facing the administrative burden, to avoid administrative delays, while controls are carried out in the form of audits to verify that the regulations are being complied with.<\/p>\n

Francisco Carro, general manager of Tresca Ingenier\u00eda, and C\u00e9sar Carnicer, general manager of our company Syva,<\/strong> also took part in the round table, reflecting the expert point of view of the companies active in the Le\u00f3n Technology Park.<\/p>\n

Both know each other well and emphasise the importance of this type of synergies between companies <\/strong>located in the same industrial cluster. Francisco Carro insists on the need to look to the future,<\/strong> especially with regard to the evolution of sustainable energies,<\/strong> because he believes that expectations are very high and that we may have overestimated when they will become a reality. Some projects, such as access to hydrogen as an energy source, will still take decades to become viable, and the director of Tresca Ingenier\u00eda believes that both authorities and companies should show ambition <\/strong>by anticipating the arrival of these technologies long before there is a demand for them.<\/p>\n

For his part, C\u00e9sar Carnicer <\/strong>highlighted the imperative need for talent and human resources with experience and specialisation in the veterinary health sector,<\/strong> which needs to innovate constantly in order to grow. He underlined the company’s strong ties with Le\u00f3n, the city where its activities were born in 1941, already innovative for the time, and its natural connection with the Le\u00f3n Technology Park, where it expanded in 2008. He also recalled that Le\u00f3n is the third largest pharmaceutical centre in Spain,<\/strong> after Madrid and Barcelona, and that it is also a good place to expand.<\/p>\n

In his intervention, he invited the authorities not to forget this important aspect for the development of industrial clusters, and in particular of the animal health industry, which is to create the optimal conditions to attract talent.<\/strong> “Le\u00f3n has a lot of talent, and we nourish ourselves with Le\u00f3n’s talent. There are veterinarians, biologists, biotechnologists, graduates in chemical and biological analysis, … <\/em>.”, he says. “But we also need to bring in talent from the outside, because they are not all here. There is a lot of talent that leaves this place in order to learn and train, and there are profiles that we need to attract from outside. So I think there is still work to be done in this area. <\/em>“.<\/p>\n

No doubt, this round table has raised a series of ideas to think <\/strong>about and analyse the future<\/strong> perspectives for the development <\/strong>of the expansion plan of the industrial network of Le\u00f3n.
