Indications
Dogs
Treatment of gastrointestinal, respiratory and urogenital tract infections (including prostatitis, complementary antibiotic treatment for pyoderma), skin/wound infections and otitis (media/externa) caused by enrofloxacin-sensitive strains of: Staphylococcus spp., Escherichia coli, Pasteurella spp., Klebsiella spp., Bordetella spp., Pseudomonas spp. and Proteus spp.
Pigs (piglets)
Treatment of respiratory tract infections caused by enrofloxacin-sensitive strains of: Pasteurella multocida, Mycoplasma spp. and Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae..
Treatment of septicaemia caused by enrofloxacin susceptible strains of Escherichia coli.
Contra-indications
Do not use in case of known hypersensitivity to fluoroquinolones or to any of the excipients.
Do not use in animals with a clinical history of seizure disorders, as enrofloxacin may cause
CNS stimulation.
Do not use in young or growing dogs, i.e. small breeds aged less than 8 months,
large breeds aged less than 12 months, or giant breeds aged less than 18 months.
Special precautions
Concomitant use of flunixin and enrofloxacin in dogs requires caution in order to prevent adverse events.
Posology
Pigs (piglets)
2.5 mg of enrofloxacin/kg bw, corresponding to 1 ml/10 kg bw, once daily by intramuscular injection for 3 days.
In gastrointestinal tract infection or septicaemia caused by Escherichia coli: 5 mg of enrofloxacin/kg bw, corresponding to 2 ml/10 kg bw, once daily by intramuscular injection for 3 days.
Inject into the neck, at the base of the ear.
No more than 3 ml should be administered at one intramuscular injection site.
Dogs
5 mg of enrofloxacin/kg bw, corresponding to 1 ml/5 kg bw, once daily by subcutaneous injection for a maximum of 5 days.
Treatment may be started with injectable enrofloxacin and maintained with enrofloxacin tablets. The treatment duration is based on the approved duration for each indication on the SmPC for enrofloxacin tablets.
