Indications

Infections associated with bacteria sensitive to ceftiofur:

Pigs:
To treat respiratory infections associated with Pasteurella multocida, Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae and Streptococcus suis.

Cattle:
To treat respiratory infections associated with Mannheimia haemolytica, Pasteurella multocida and Histophilus somni.
To treat acute interdigital necrobacillosis (footrot, pododermatitis), associated with Fusobacterium necrophorum and Bacteroides melaninogenicus (Porphyromonas asaccharolytica).
To treat the bacterial component of acute post-partum metritis (puerperal) associated with Escherichia coli, Archanobacterium pyongenes and Fusobacterium necrophorum, sensitive to ceftiofur, in the 10 days after birth. The indication is limited to cases in which treatment with another antimicrobial has failed.

Special precautions

Do not use to prevent diseases or as part of herd health programmes. Animal group treatment must be strictly limited to active outbreaks of diseases, in accordance with approved conditions of use Do not use as prophylaxis in case of placenta retention.

Posology

Porcine:
3 mg ceftiofur/kg bw/day for 3 days intramuscularly, i.e. 1 ml/16 kg bw per injection.
Cattle:
Respiratory infections: 1 mg ceftiofur/kg bw/day for 3 to 5 days subcutaneously, i.e. 1 ml/50 kg bw per injection.
Acute interdigital necrobacillosis: 1 mg/kg bw/day for 3 days subcutaneously, i.e. 1 ml/50 kg bw per injection.
Acute post-partum metritis within 10 days of parturition: 1 mg/kg bw/day for 5 consecutive days, subcutaneously, i.e. 1 ml/50 kg bw per injection.
In the event of acute post-partum metritis, additional support treatment may be required in some cases.

In order to ensure correct dosage and to avoid under-dosage, the live weight of the animals should be determined as accurately as possible.

No more than 5 ml should be administered in pigs at a single intramuscular injection site, or 7 ml at a single subcutaneous injection site in cattle. The following injections should be administered at different sites.

Shake the vial vigorously for 1 minute, or until complete resuspension of the veterinary medicinal product.

The user will have to select the most suitable vial size.
