26th Edition Syva 2023 Award for the Best Doctoral Thesis in Animal Health

26 years ago, Syva created the Syva Award, which aims to support fundamental research in animal health and to support young researchers who contribute to the development of knowledge in the fields in line with the activities supported by its research and development department.

This initiative is now a must-have for Syva and the University of León, which supports the academic aspect of the theses defended by doctoral students. With this award, Syva, which is always looking for concrete and effective solutions that constantly improve animal health is committed to a long-term vision oriented towards the development of innovative solutions and strives for quality and excellence.

Last year was a very special year, in which the work of three remarkable women stood out.
Our winner, Amparo Picard Sánchezwho completed her thesis at the Department of Animal Science of the Polytechnic University of Valencia with great success. [For more information click here], but also the work of Ariadna Sitjà, his thesis director who heads the Fish Pathology Group of the Department of Biology, Culture and Pathology of Marine Species at the Torre de Sal Aquaculture Institute. We also had the pleasure of having on our selection panel the winner of the 2003 edition, Azucena Mora, who is now a professor at the University of Santiago de Compostela, and an international expert actively involved in local and European projects.

In addition to a prize of 15,000 euros, the winner receives significant recognition for his work and a unique opportunity for visibility for the development of his career.

Some useful details!

The application period starts on 3 January and ends on 19 February 2023.

All doctoral theses defended during the academic year 2021-2022 are taken into account.

Subjects may deal with all aspects of animal health, in particular microbiology, immunology, as well as infectious and parasitic diseases.

The applicants will find here a web registration form to facilitate the collection of their personal data, as well as the list of documents to be submitted and sent to the attention of the Rector of the University of León, and which will be included in the General Registry of the University.

The prize represents a unique and indivisible financial endowment of 15,000 euros.
