Azucena Mora, winner of the Syva Award 2003, achieves the highest academic level

As you know, we are always happy to share news of the award winners who have contributed to the prestige of the Syva Award for more than 27 years.
So, we are delighted to announce that on 13 September Azucena Mora successfully passed the contest for her appointment as Professor at the University of Santiago de Compostela in the area of Microbiology. This is the highest academic level that can be achieved. Her nomination takes place only 4 years after she was appointed as permanent professor in 2019.
It has been an impressive journey since 2003, when she submitted her thesis and, as a young doctor, won the Syva Award. Since then, her steps have regularly crossed those of our colleagues. Her testimony as a winner and as a member of the jury of the 25th edition of the Award in 2022 and today, her nomination as Professor, is a further source of pride for Syva and our entire team.
Through her career, her ever growing commitment to projects aimed at improving animal health and welfare, and her willingness to pass on knowledge, Azucena Mora has this precious power, as a mentor, to motivate younger generations of researchers. On behalf of the board and staff of Syva, we warmly congratulate her on this achievement and on her title.
We would also like to highlight, with great satisfaction, that three of the four professors who formed the Commission that assessed the chair have been part of our Syva Award panel in different editions (Ricardo de la Fuente, Rosa Caro, Luis Ortega and Ana Carvajal).
