Active ingredient(s)
Gonadorelin (gonadorelin acetate) …………………………………………………………………50 µg/mL
Indications
Cattle: cows and heifers.
Treatment of follicular ovarian cysts.
Combined with artificial insemination, to optimise ovulation time.
Induction and synchronisation of oestrus and ovulation in combination with Prostaglandin F2a (PGF2α) with or without progesterone as part of fixed time artificial insemination protocols (FTAI):
-In cyclic cows: To be used in combination with PGF2α or analogue.
-In cyclic and non-cyclic cows and heifers: To be used in combination with PGF2α or analogue and progesterone releasing device.
Contra-indications
Do not use in animals with known hypersensitivity to gonadorelin or any excipient.
Do not use to shorten oestrum during infectious diseases and other relevant disorders.
Special precautions
For induction and synchronisation of oestrum and ovulation in Fixed Time artificial insemination protocols (FTAI), the product must be administered at least 35 days after birth. The response of cows and heifers to synchronisation protocols is impacted by the physiological condition at the time of the treatment. Responses to treatment may vary between herds or cows within herds. However, the percentage of cows that come into oestrus during a determined period is in general greater than in untreated cows and the subsequent luteal phase has a normal duration.
For the protocol that only includes PGF2α recommended for cyclic cows: To maximise rates of conception of cows that will be treated, the ovary’s regular cyclic activity must be determined and confirmed. Optimal results will be attained in healthy cyclic cows. For induction and synchronisation of the oestrum and ovulation in Fixed Time artificial insemination protocols (FTAI), the product must be administered at least 35 days after the birth. The response of cows and heifers to synchronisation protocols is impacted by the physiological condition at the time of the treatment. The responses to the treatment may vary between herds or cows within the herds. However, the percentage of cows that present oestrus during a determined period is in general greater than in untreated cows and the subsequent luteal phase has a normal duration.
It is not recommended that pregnant women administer the product and women of childbearing age must administer the product with caution.
Posology
Treatment of follicular ovarian cysts:100-150 µg of gonadorelin (acetate) per animal (e.g., 2-
3 mL product per animal). If necessary, the treatment can be repeated at 1-2 week intervals.
In association with artificial insemination to optimise ovulation time, which improves the possibilities that the cow treated is fertile: 100 µg of gonadorelin (acetate) per animal (e.g. 2 mL of product per animal). Administration must be at the time of artificial insemination and/or 12 days after this.
The following injection and insemination programme must be followed:
– Injection must be administered between 4 and 10 hours after detecting oestrus.
– A minimum interval of 2 hours between the GnRH injection and artificial insemination is recommended.
– Artificial insemination must be performed in accordance with the usual recommendations,i.e. 12 to 24 hours after detection of oestrus.
Induction and synchronisation of oestrus and ovulation in combination with Prostaglandin F2a (PGF2α) with or withoutprogesterone as part of Fixed Time Artificial Insemination protocols (FTAI):
The following protocols have often been cited in the literature:
In cyclic cows:
-Day 0 Inject 100 micrograms of gonadorelin (acetate) per animal (2 mL of product).
– Day 7 Inject PGF2α or analogue (luteolytic dose).
– Day 9 Inject 100 micrograms of gonadorelin (acetate) per animal (2 mL of product).
-Artificial insemination 16–20 hours later or once oestrus is detected if this is prior.
Alternatively:
– Day 0 Inject 100 micrograms of gonadorelin (acetate) per animal (2 mL of product).
– Day 7 Inject PGF2α or analogue (luteolytic dose).
Artificial insemination and injection of 100 micrograms of gonadorelin (acetate) per
animal (2 mL of product) 60–72 hours later or once oestrus is detected if this is prior.
In cyclic and non-cyclic cows and heifers::
– Insert the intravaginal progesterone releasing device for 7-8 days.
– Inject 100 micrograms of gonadorelin (acetate) per animal (2 mL of product) at the time of inserting the device.
– Inject 100 micrograms of gonadorelin (acetate) per animal (2 mL of product) at the time of inserting the device.
– IATF 56 hours after eliminating the device, or
– Inject 100 micrograms of gonadorelin (acetate) per animal (2 mL of product) 36
hours after eliminating the progesterone releasing device and IATF 16 to 20 hours later.
