Destination Nantes for the European Buiatrics Congress 2025
On 15 and 16 May, the Cité des Congrès in Nantes will host the European Buiatrics Congress (EBC), a key event for the veterinary and cattle health community in Europe. This year’s edition takes place in a context marked by the growing impact of epizootic and zoonotic vector-borne diseases, which continue to place significant pressure on the cattle farming sector.
For more than two decades, Syva plays an active role in addressing these challenges—beginning with bluetongue and, more recently, epizootic haemorrhagic disease (EHD)—through the development of a DIVA- vaccine. Considering the company’s trajectory and the current situation in the field, not being present in Nantes would simply be unthinkable. Our participation, alongside veterinarians and livestock professionals, reaffirms our long-standing commitment to the sector.

A symposium on vector-borne diseases: to be followed closely
Alongside the European Buiatrics Congress, on Wednesday 14 May at 5.30pm, we are organising an invitation-only symposium on the theme of : “Vaccination at the Core of a Sustainable European Strategy Against Vector-Borne Diseases.”
Moderated by Léonard Théron, Chief Technology Officer at RumExperts and a veterinarian deeply committed to supporting cattle farmers in Belgium, the symposium will examine the increasing prevalence of vector-borne diseases in Europe and underline the crucial role of vaccination in their long-term control.
Two keynote presentations will open the session. Stéphan Zientara, Director of Animal Health at ANSES, will provide an overview of current epidemiological trends and likely developments. He will be followed by Hans de Smit, Syva’s Head of R&D and Innovation, who will present the future of vaccines targeting these epizootic threats. The symposium will then continue with a panel discussion and participants Q&A.
The panel brings together a group of leading European Experts: Katrien van den Brink, senior bovine veterinarian at Royal GD (Netherlands); Germán Cáceres Garrido, Head of the Epidemiology Department at the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture (MAPA); Ana Granados Chapatte, Director of the European Forum of Farm Animal Breeders (EFFAB); and Hélène Gérard, Veterinary Expert at the FPS for Public Health, Food Chain Safety and Environment in Belgium.
Please note: Due to the strong interest expressed by many of you — veterinarians and farmers alike — Syva is currently exploring the option of broadcasting the symposium live. The session will be conducted in English, with simultaneous interpretation into French and Spanish.
