An update on bluetongue: interview with Stéphan Zientara
At a time when we are witnessing new outbreaks of bluetongue, also known as ovine catarrhal fever, and where new serotypes such as BTV3 are appearing, we felt it was important to provide an update on the evolution of this virus, which particularly affects livestock farms in France and Spain, but also in other European countries where the situation is a matter of concern. To discuss this topic, we are pleased to welcome Stéphan Zientara.
In November 2023, Stéphan Zientara has been appointed director of the Animal Health Laboratory of ANSES, the French National Health Safety Agency. He has worked for many years in virus research and control, both in France and at European and international level. Author of numerous publications, he is also, among other things, responsible for the European Union reference laboratory for equine diseases and the World Organisation for Animal Health reference laboratory, OMSA for epizootic haemorrhagic disease.
