Call for applications now open · 29th edition · Syva Award International 2026

The Syva Award International is now accepting submissions for its 29th edition, which will take place in 2026.
From 15 December 2025 to 22 February 2026, we invite new PhD graduates in Animal Health to present their work and join a community that has been promoting scientific excellence for almost three decades.
Every year, this award recognises the Best Doctoral Thesis in Animal Health among works defended in Europe and in countries where Syva is present. A unique award for its prestige, academic impact and the international network it generates around its winners.
Why should you apply?
Because this award not only recognises a thesis: it opens doors.
Participating means:
- To give your work international visibility.
- To connect with a panel of leading experts in animal health.
- To be part of a journey that has inspired researchers who are now leading projects in microbiology, immunology, and infectious diseases.
If you successfully defended your thesis between 1 October 2023 and 30 September 2025, and it has generated at least two indexed publications, this opportunity is for you.
How to participate?
Applications may only be submitted online via
👉 https://award.syva.es (open from 15th December ).
You will only need to complete the form and upload:
- Your personal details and ID card/passport.
- The final version of your doctoral thesis (or an extract in Spanish/English if it is written in another language).
- Your derivative scientific work.
- Awards or distinctions obtained.
A solid, clear and verifiable application is key to moving forward in the process.
The prize
A reward that matches the effort:
- First prize: €18,000
- Up to two additional prizes: €3,500 each
The award may be declared void if the scientific level so requires, ensuring that excellence is genuine and non-negotiable.
Evaluation and announcement of winners
An international panel will evaluate the theses using transparent and rigorous criteria:
- 75% → Scientific value of the thesis
- 25 % → Related scientific output
The decision will be published before 14 April 2026.
The Syva experience: more than just an award
The winners will be invited to León, where they will present their research to an expert audience, visit our facilities, and enjoy a day dedicated to celebrating their contribution to animal health.
Take the next step in your scientific career
If you have spent years conducting research that could improve animal health and welfare, now is your moment.
The Syva Award International not only recognises your efforts: it propels you into the future.
👉 We are waiting for you.
