The MAPA has confirmed the outbreak of anthrax: important recommendations

The Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA) has recently confirmed outbreaks of anthrax in cattle farms in Extremadura.
The disease is a compulsory notifiable zoonosis, whose spores can persist for years in soil and pastures.

Key recommendations:

• Immediately report any suspicions to the Official Veterinary Services (OVS).

• Do not open suspicious dead animals; follow official protocols for disposal.

• Strengthen biosecurity measures in high-risk areas.

• Vaccinate under veterinary supervision and always in accordance with the guidelines of the Administration.

At Syva, we emphasise the importance of implementing an appropriate vaccination programme as the most effective method of controlling the disease, following the indications of the Official Veterinary Services.
